Joy Scouting
You don’t have to wait to figure life out to start making room for joy. You just have to be willing to go looking for it.
Not because everything is good. Not because you should be grateful. And definitely not because we're going to slap a silver lining on whatever hard thing you're carrying.
But because even in the midst of grief, stress, uncertainty, monotony, bullshit, and the regular Tuesday-ness of being alive, good things are still happening.
Joy Scouting is a tiny quest — one clue at a time — for the joy that already exists.
Doors open November 1.
Get on the list and you’ll be the first to know when it’s live.
Maybe your life doesn’t need a complete overhaul.
When you’ve spent a long time surviving, caregiving, grieving, or carrying more than you thought you could, it’s easy for your world to get smaller.
You get very good at noticing what needs your attention. What hurts. What could go wrong. What needs to be handled next.
Meanwhile, the good stuff can get harder to see.
But it’s still showing up. The text that makes you laugh before you’ve even gotten out of bed. The first windows-down day of the year. Staying at dinner longer than you planned. Trying something you’re terrible at and having fun anyway. Someone remembering the thing you told them months ago. The surprising realization that today was actually a pretty damn good day.
Scouting Joy is about widening the view. Getting outside. Calling your friends. Trying something new. Putting your phone down. Noticing the day while you’re actually having it.
You can carry what’s hard and still be here for what’s good.
You don’t need a better life to find more joy.
It's just better at finding the bad stuff.
Psychologists call it the negativity bias: we're wired to notice threats faster than good things. For most of human history, spotting the tiger in the bushes mattered more than admiring the sunset.
These days, the tiger looks a little different.
Your Brain is Already Scouting

The text that never came

Every worst-case scenario for tomorrow

The belly laughs with friends
Your song with the windows down
